Inauguration of Department of Library and Information Science
The Department of Library and Information Science is established under Somaiya Vidyavihar University in the year 2021- 2022 under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Science
The Department of Library and Information Science is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and professional practice in the field of information management. The department plays a vital role in preparing skilled information professionals who can effectively manage, organize, and disseminate knowledge in a rapidly evolving digital environment.
We offer a Master of Library and Information Science (MLISc) programme that provides strong theoretical foundations combined with practical training in library operations, information technologies, digital resources, and user services. The department also offers a Ph.D. programme, encouraging advanced research in areas such as information organization, knowledge management, digital libraries, and emerging information technologies. In addition, certificate programme in library and information science is conducted to equip learners with focused, job-oriented skills aligned with current professional needs.
Post Graduates of our programmes have diverse career opportunities in academic, public, special, and digital libraries, as well as in information centres, archives, research organizations, corporate knowledge centres, and IT-enabled information services. The programmes also prepare students for roles such as information managers, data and knowledge professionals, digital content managers, research analysts, and educators. The department strives to nurture competent, ethical, and innovative professionals who can contribute meaningfully to the knowledge society.

She has completed her Ph.D. in Library and Information Science from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai and MLISc. from University of Mumbai. She is also a coordinator for the Research and Publication Ethics course conducted as a part of the course work for the SVU research scholars.
She has been a member of the Board of Studies in Library and Information Science at DLIS, SVU, since February 2021 and nominated as a member of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, SVU, from February 2022. She has participated in various professional development workshops and published research papers at various National and International Conferences.
